"Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain."

Sandtray Therapy – Melody Slawter, LCMHC, CCTP

We can often struggle to put ideas and emotions into words, because words fall short of the full nature of what we're experiencing.

This is where sandtray therapy can shine.

Using sand and various figures and items, we are able to visually convey our emotions and our felt experience. This allows for a fuller and deeper processing of what is going on inside of us, and it gives me as your therapist a better understanding of your world.

Sandtray therapy provides a way to connect the emotional, experiential part of our brain to the area that makes meaning out of experience, puts words to what has happened, and is able to sort through and problem solve. It bridges the gap so we can see things more clearly and better understand what's going on.

In the safety of the therapeutic relationship, sandtray therapy gives a voice to the part of us that doesn't have words to speak, allowing for healing to begin in the deepest part of who we are.

"Often it is necessary to clarify a vague content by giving it a visible form... Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain."

- Carl Jung
